Los Angeles has JUNE GLOOM.
JUNE GLOOM is not a new reality show about skanky grads who can't find sexy jobs.It is "a weather pattern that results in cloudy, overcast skies with cool temperatures during the late spring and early summer, most commonly in the month of June." - Wikipedia."Low-altitude stratus clouds are formed over the ocean, then transported over the coastal regions by the wind."Bottom line: The beaches in Southern California become blanketed in a shroud of fog and drizzle that resembles the Edinburgh Haar. The bright sun and clear blue skies that we are famous for are MIA in a white misty haze - the entire month.Snow, sleet, and hail are for sissies.Fog and drizzle are more insidious.
JUNE GLOOMhangs low over your head like an ominous dark cloud that teases you with a ray or two of sunlight every five hours or so, thus generating a glimmer of hope that the sun may actually make an appearance.
It will not.This is most hurtful... like John Cleese reminds us, as Brian Stimpson in the comedy film Clockwise:
“It's not the despair, Laura. I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand."
Will the sun come out tomorrow?
