Minimalism: Does it Spark Joy or Oy?
Minimalism: A few thoughts
First, the word "minimalism" - for God's sake, it's 10 letters and 5 syllables! Why the #&!# not a shorter word...... for a concept and practice that embodies simplicity and "less?" If you are one hot mess short of being a certified hoarder, minimalism may be the answer.https://www.theminimalists.com/minimalism/It's a thriving movement. It promises the average packrat "joy" through simplicity. https://www.becomingminimalist.com/what-is-minimalism/
JOY
Joy - a feeling of great pleasure and happiness - is not usually a word associated with cleaning out the closets.
OY
Oy - a Yiddish exclamation of dismay, exasperation and pain - is frequently used in the sentence "You gave away all your stuff! OY VEY! Are you CRAZY?"
Marie Kondo is the Martha Stewart of Minimalism
I see a product line coming - perky baskets, cute boxes, sock organizers in joyful colors, chic underwear rollers.
3 Books by Marie Kondo
How many books on minimalism is too many?
- the life-changing magic of tidying up: the Japanese art of decluttering and organizing
- spark joy: an illustrated master class on the art of organizing and tidying up
- a journal: life-changing magic, spark joy every day
(Marie doesn't use capital letters in her book titles - perhaps they take up too much space.)
CAUTION
If you watch her popular series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix, you will be seduced by her charm, humility, and sweet spirit. You may become a convert to her decluttering cult.
Spark Joy
Heck, it's easy to spark joy in a tiny house with only a few possessions - you're always rubbing up against each other.Everything goes in a basket. Baskets go in baskets... that go in baskets... that go in baskets. How many baskets can you own before you become a basket case?In reverence to minimalism, this post does not exceed 300 words.
