Lessons: Evacuating from an Active Wildfire Zone

There are many lessons to be learned when evacuating from an active wildfire zone.

Wildfire

“Wind's in the East...mist coming in. Like something is brewing, about to begin. Can't put my finger...on what lies in store, but I fear what's to happen all happened before.”- Bert in Mary PoppinsDick Van Dyke Barb Best

Breathe

Remember to breathe!  But only with a N95 respirator mask so you can screen out hazardous gases such as carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, acrolein, and random farts.Soot happens. You'll likely resemble Dick Van Dyke as Bert the chimney sweeper in Mary Poppins. When evacuating in a hurry, consult a previously written list of what to take with you. "The list in your head" is difficult to read when cortisol is raging through your veins screaming, "Run! You're gonna die!"Take all medications as you will need them more than ever in the coming weeks. If you have a compact car and an obese cat, you will not be able to fit much else in that back seat.As important as "Stop, Drop, and Roll" is "Cell phone, Laptop, Charger Cords." Did I say "Charger Cords?" For cell phone and laptop?

ZZZZZZ!

Smoke gets in your eyes - so close them and sleep when you can. Naps are a gift. They shouldn't be wasted on toddlers who have way more energy than we do.If you can't bring your Gratitude Journal with you, start a new one. If you don't have one, it's a good time to start one.

Smokey

Perhaps Smokey the Bear needs to revise his famous line... "Only YOU (and the power company) can prevent forest fires!"https://www.barbbest.com/25-reasons-i-cant-breathe/
